Israël liquideert topman Islamitische Jihad

JENIN – Een Israëlische commando–eenheid heeft woensdag in Jenin op de bezette Westelijke Jordaanoever de lokale commandant van de Islamitische Jihad doodgeschoten. De auto van Mahmoud Abu al–Jahim werd vanuit een hinderlaag doorzeefd, aldus getuigen.
De liquidatie volgt een dag na de arrestatie nabij Tel Aviv van een Palestijn. Daarbij werden ook explosieven in beslag genomen. Volgens de politie was de man lid van de Islamitische Jihad en stond hij op het punt een zelfmoordaanslag in Tel Aviv te plegen. Hij zou zijn gestuurd door Mahmoud Abu al–Jahim.

'Witnesses said that the Israeli special forces entered the city in a white car and ambushed the commander in his car and sprayed the car with bullets. One of the Israeli unit members got out of the car and shot the commander a few more times. They added that a combat helicopter was seen hovering in the area at the time of the assassination.'
